The Basics of Roullete

Roullete (pronounced roo-lay) is one of the most popular casino games in the world, and it offers a surprising level of depth for those who want to play for real money. The game is simple, but the rules can be complicated, and understanding the odds of each type of bet is important to making smart decisions. Whether you’re new to the game or an experienced player, this article will give you a quick overview of the rules and the different types of bets that are available.

The wheel contains numbered pockets that range from 0 to 36. These are alternately red and black, with the exception of the 0 and 00, which are green. The numbers are arranged in a random order around the outside of the wheel, so there are no repeating patterns within the segments that the ball can land in. Once the wheel is spinning, the dealer will throw a small ball into the wheel, and the players watch as it spins and bounces until it lands in one of the numbered compartments. If a player’s bet was on that number, they win.

In Roulette, each player purchases coloured chips to bet with. The dealer will ask how much you’d like to designate for each chip, and will then mark them accordingly. The color helps differentiate the bets from one another, which is helpful when multiple players are playing at the same table. The dealers will also separate the chips so that winning bettors can cash them in before they leave the table.

Besides placing bets on individual numbers, players can make “outside bets” that cover groups of numbers instead of specific digits. These bets have a lower house edge and offer a higher payout if they hit.

Street Bet/Three Number Bet/Side Bet: A bet that covers a row of three numbers on the table map. This bet pays out 11-1.

Odd or Even Bet: Known as impair et pair in French, this bet wagers that the winning number will be either one of the 18 odd numbers on the layout or one of the 18 even ones. The 0 and 00 don’t count for these bets, so if they come up, the player loses.

Oftentimes, players will place multiple inside bets, hoping to cover as many different numbers as possible. This increases their chances of hitting a winner, but it’s important to understand the house edge of each bet before you start spending your hard-earned cash.
